“The Whole Thing Has To Go”

Updates on 19 Feb , 2015

The Age has just published a story on the planned Beaumaris Marina expansion plans, threatening our World-class fossil site:

The article quotes esteemed Australian mammalogist, palaeontologist, environmentalist and global warming activist Professor Tim Flannery as stating “The proposal to massively expand [the yacht club] needs to stop because the whole thing has to go any way, so don’t let people pour money into it.”.

Professor Flannery went on to state that “the richest part of the fossil bed was already buried underneath a car park and further development of the site would only exacerbate the problem”.

You can read the full article at the link above, but as a reassuring indication that our community objection to the marina proposal is gaining traction, Environment minister Lisa Neville was quoted as stating she is aware of “the significant community concern” and pointed out that the proposal was submitted under the previous government. She also stated that planning Minister Richard Wynne “would continue to listen to the community and that the Environmental Effects Statement process would involve significant community consultation”.
